Charity Holiday Gift Guide
So, this holiday season we decided not to put together a gift guide and there’s a very humane reason for that; the world has suffered a lot of turmoil this year and it seems a little superfluous to be spending on gifts and presents. So we put together a Charity Holiday Gift Guide.
Please don’t get us wrong, this is not a guilt trip or shaming of any kind, simply an alternative to spending your holiday budget in another way. It’s all in good spirit and we would be very happy to hear our readers sharing our point of view.
Below are a list of charities and causes we believe in. Most of them accept online donations:
Suge for Water: Surge brings life-sustaining water and sanitation solutions to those in need and raises awareness of the global water crisis. It is a nonprofit organization registered in the United States and the United Arab Emirates with water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in nine countries and counting.
K9 Friends: “We reunite lost dogs with their owners, or care for them until new homes can be found; giving them shelter and high standards of kenneling and veterinary care. We offer extra training and socialisation to those dogs who need it and detailed help and advice to new pet owners.”
38 Smiles: A small animal charity organisation that comes together to adopt, foster and take care of our furry friends, cats and dogs. An initiative I’m particularly attached to, 38 Smiles do a lot of good and they surely need your help. If you wish to be more involved than just donating, get in touch with them, they are always in on the lookout for more hands to help out with their many many paws.
Dubai Cares: Even the smallest amount can make a big difference in a child’s life. You can provide school feeding to a child for one day to improve learning capabilities. For as little as AED 3, you can de-worm a child for a year, a method proven to promote a child’s health and increase their cognitive abilities, thereby improving their access to education and performance in school.
UNHCR/ Donate to Syrian Refugees: UNHCR provides basic and necessary humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees and helps the most vulnerable refugees with urgently needed relief – cash for medicine and food, stoves and fuel for heating, insulation for tents, thermal blankets and winter clothing.UNHCR provides basic and necessary humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees and helps the most vulnerable refugees with urgently needed relief – cash for medicine and food, stoves and fuel for heating, insulation for tents, thermal blankets and winter clothing.
Dubai Center for Special Needs: DCSN aims to serve the diverse academic, physical, social and emotional needs of our students. All aspects of our organization’s curriculum and activities are child-centered, designed to assist individual learning styles to achieve success.
Pink Caravan/ Breast Cancer: Spread awareness about the importance of self breast examination amongst the UAE community. Dispel myths associated with breast cancer in relation to the UAE community. Provide access to clinical breast examinations, mammography and further breast cancer screening investigation, for women and men within the UAE community. Lobby for the creation of the UAE’s National Cancer Registry. Advocate amongst public and private medical bodies to improve the standards of breast cancer screening and treatment within the UAE.
I would like to thank you personally for your considerations and your donations! Happy holidays and best wishes for the new year!
