Vesque Magazine acquires an opportunity to speak with Mark Johnson, the Global President of Molton Brown, about Molton Brown’s uniqueness, the uniqueness of the Middle Eastern clientele and the latest range of products by Molton Brown, the Re-charge Black Pepper Sport Collection.  

  1. What is a man looking for when he walks into Molton Brown? How do you cater to him?

Men who shop in Molton Brown tend to be true loyals to our brand.  They clearly look after their appearance, and want a distinctive fragrance to make them stand out from the crowd. We are proud to offer a unique men’s proposition which includes fragrance, grooming products, haircare and bath & body products, so we can offer gentlemen a complete grooming regime.

The assortment also includes handy travel sizes of their favourites, as well as blends for the gym.

Many of our customers are also looking for a gift for a family member and our team are able to provide a unique gifting service curating the best content for the recipient and his occasion, making Molton Brown a one stop destination for the discerning male customer.

  1. What makes Molton Brown unique from its competitors?

Molton Brown was one of the first luxury brands to introduce a bespoke men’s grooming collection in 1985. We have since gone on to create some of our most iconic and best-selling blends for men including Re-charge Black Pepper and more recently Tobacco Absolute. We are constantly innovating and looking to make the customer shopping experience more engaging, and invested in bespoke merchandising tools as well as offering fragrance consultations and tailored grooming advice.

  1. Is there a distinction, or something different that a Middle Eastern customer is looking for?

Middle Eastern men are often looking for the latest innovation so our new product development program certainly keeps them coming back to store not only for their familiar favourites, but also for newness as well, such as Tobacco Absolute or Re-charge Black Pepper Sport.  We have some very exciting launches next year across our body and grooming categories.

Typically Middle Eastern men are found of stronger, more opulent and long-lasting fragrances which is why our Oudh Accord & Gold blend is particularly popular. More citrusy fragrances such as our iconic Bushukan and Orange & Bergamot collections are also favoured in the Middle-East.

  1. The new Molton Brown Re-Charge Black Pepper Sport Collection is a great solution to men’s athletic needs. Is there a similar range, or are you working on one for women? 

We are constantly reviewing market trends and engaging with customers, having their very best interest in mind. For the short term, we don’t have any immediate plans to introduce a similar collection targeting a female audience; our current strong female assortment including our bestselling blends, such as Pink Pepperpod or our new Rosa Absolute, offers a multitude of handy travel sizes, all perfectly suitable for any gym kit.
